This affordable tour of Spain and Portugal introduces you to fascinating Iberian cities and exciting cultural discoveries. Spend two nights in Seville, two nights in Lisbon, two nights in Madrid and one night in Granada and enjoy sightseeing tours with a local guide, expert in the city's history and sights, in Lisbon, Seville and Madrid.
Travel by ferry from Africa to Europe. We will leave for Spain by ferry where each passenger must carry their own luggage with them on the ferry. We will arrive in Algeciras or Tarifa and continue by coach to SEVILLE. Arrival in the evening.
Guided tour with a local expert in Seville. Boat trip on the Guadalquivir River. Night transfer to the historic center. After breakfast, a local expert will guide you on a panoramic tour of Seville including the cathedral and its famous Giralda (bell tower), the banks of the Guadalquivir River, the popular neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, and the magnificent Plaza de España. After the tour, we will include a boat trip along the Guadalquivir River, enjoying the panoramic views from the boat. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore at your leisure. At the end of the afternoon, we will head to the historic center of the city (Calle Alfonso XII) where you can choose from many types of restaurants.
We will leave Seville and set out on a scene of picturesque beauty. Through hills and olive groves we will enter Extremadura. We will stop at JEREZ DE LOS CABALLEROS, this town which once belonged to the Templars and where Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was born. We will then enter Portugal. MONSARAZ is one of the most picturesque villages in Portugal with old fortified walls, a castle, great views and white painted streets bursting with flower pots. We will then head to the town of EVORA, declared a world heritage site thanks to its white-painted streets, its Renaissance palaces and its cathedral. It is time for lunch. We will also visit the impressive Bone Chapel (entrance included), which was built with the bones of over 5,000 skeletons! We will arrive in LISBON at the end of the day.
In the morning we will take a sightseeing tour with a local guide. We will visit traditional neighborhoods including the Belém district, cradle of the great Portuguese navigators who sailed the oceans in the 15th century. We will visit the Monument of the Discoveries, the Belém Tower and the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take advantage of the free afternoon to explore the city at your leisure. Late in the afternoon we will have a transfer to Restauradores Square, a public square full of restaurants and cafes. We suggest you take the Elevador Da Gloria funicular which will take you to the San Pedro viewpoint with beautiful views of Lisbon and Bairro Alto. Return to the hotel.
Lunch included. Today we will travel to the north of Portugal and visit FATIMA, an important sanctuary (place of pilgrimage). We will continue our route through the green spaces of the center, passing through Spain, then, through the meadows, we will cross the north of Extremadura. Lunch included en route in a regional cuisine restaurant. We will continue towards MADRID where we will arrive at the end of the day. Then we include the transfer to the Plaza Mayor where you can enjoy typical taverns.
Visit to the Las Ventas bullring. Evening transfer. The morning begins with a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, including Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We will then visit Retiro Park, an oasis in the city center, where we will see the lake and the Glass Palace. A visit to the Las Ventas bullring (entrance included) is next. It is one of the most famous bullrings in the world where we will discover the tradition of “bullfights” at the Bullfighting Museum. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. At sunset, we will arrange a transfer to Plaza de Oriente, in front of the Royal Palace, an elegant and lively area with many restaurants serving different cuisines, such as local Spanish, international and Chinese cuisine. Enjoy a pleasant dinner of your choice. At the end of the evening, we will return to the hotel.
Evening transfer. We leave Madrid early in the morning. We travel south through La Mancha, stopping at PUERTO LAPICE, a “manchego” village evoking the figure of Don Quixote. We will enter Andalusia via Despeñaperros and arrive in GRANADA. Lunch included. In the afternoon, we will visit with a local guide the immense Alhambra palace and its magnificent Generalife gardens, built in the Arab era. In the evening we will visit the Albaicín district of Granada, a World Heritage Site along with the Alhambra, where you can dine in the narrow winding streets of this captivating medieval Moorish quarter. This evening you have the opportunity to attend a flamenco dance show and the traditional Sacromonte district. IMPORTANT NOTE: The maximum number of people allowed to visit the Alhambra is limited by the local government. Even if you purchase the trip with the ticket included, we cannot guarantee entry to the Alhambra. In this case we would offer entry to the Reales Alcázares of Seville, which is similar.
Departure from Granada. We cross the Costa del Sol. In Algeciras or Tarifa, we board a modern ferry to cross the Strait of Gibraltar. The coach does not normally make the crossing, so passengers must carry their luggage. Arrival in Morocco. Tangier. End of services.
